Happy 50th Birthday Barbie!!

I just wanted to make sure that everyone knew that today was Barbie's 50th Birthday.

And damn does that broad still look good.

She may have had a few changes over the years, but she will always be my favorite. In my head, the true icon of feminism. Which I always get shit for. But look at all the groovy jobs Barbie has had over the years, all while looking amazing. Femi-nazis hate me, by the way. I'll probably sport my Barbie purse the remainder of the week, just to spite them.

So here's to you, Barbie. May you have another great ageless 50 ahead of you!

Twilight.

Alright. I'll be the loser that posts about it. Because my tween-girl-like obsession with this book series prevents me from doing any real work at all today. :)

TWILIGHT THE MOVIE OPENS TONIGHT AT MIDNIGHT!! WHOO HOO!!<lj-embed id="2" />

I have a deeper love of Edward Cullen that I'm pretty sure I've ever had of any real live person. Which is an issue for my shrink and I to discuss at a later date.

But at 12:01am tonight I shall be surrounded by 13 year old girls and my two best gays (Jeremy and Adam) as we eat popcorn, down soda, and fantasize about becoming vampires ourselves.

Josh, needless to say, will be in bed.
Prude.

1st Day

So I'm an out of shape loser.

I want to believe that I'm in good physical condition. That I can handle what is thrown at me. After all, I play in a co-ed volleyball league a majority of the year, I take boxing class on occasion, and run for leisure... when its nice out.

And there is excuse number one.

Last night was my first day of "training." I had to run 2 miles on my own. Quick two miles. Nothing to shout about. I've done this a hundred times before. Of course, yesterday was also the day the movers came to take my piano to my new house. So after dealing with that fiasco, wanting to kill my new landlord for deciding to tile the front foyer the day I was moving the heaviest piece of furniture I own, and the torrential downpour/ typhoon that moved through KC... I wasn't exactly in the mood to put on the ol' kicks.

But I did. I headed down to Scott Fitness (the best gym in the entire world) and put on a few different playlists as I cruised my two miles, sweating my ass off, and breathing way too heavy for my own good. Maybe I'm doing this too fast.

The gym set up at the Scott Fitness in Westport is really odd. There are a few treadmills that faced the other cardio equipment directly... with no TV in front of them. So you are essentially staring at the people on the elipticals (machines that I believe give no real benefit to anyone), and hoping they don't think you are a complete freak.

There were three people in front of me today:
"Guy Who Should Be Gay"- an Architectual Digest reading, StairMaster climbing, bleached blonde, iPod listening fellow who really worked hard on the Eliptical (if that's even possible) even resorting to a few minor grunts during the hills, and a whole lot of brow wiping.

"Little Girl Who Demands Respect"- This wee one was directly in front of me. She couldn't have been more than 5 foot tall if she was an inch. She coordinated head to toe, and wouldn't look up when she worked out. She kept staring at the numbers flipping hoping to burn that one last calorie. She was a little hard core for me.

"Big Dude With a Tat He At One Time Wanted but Now Regrets it"- Roughly 6'4", and 280 lbs, this monstrosity has an embarrassingly large tattoo running from shoulder blade to elbow. He wears the sleeveless shirt to show it off and occasionally looks at it longingly, as if someday its going to fit him or make him cool. But for now he's just an overweight guy on an eliptical next to a short chick who won't give him the time of day.

I know what you are thinking and to answer you: yes, this is exactly what I do at the gym.

Its raining and hailing like a mother fucker outside.

I haven't had any desire to work since I stumbled upon the Whammy picture (from Press Your Luck) and started designing shirts around it... which lead me to plan a major pub crawl before my birthday, designing 3 more t-shirt designs, and wasting 2 hours at work.

So now I'm going to go home. I don't really want to. But its too crappy to be outside, I can't drive around cause of the weather and I have no desire to really go see my family...

I feel as though I'm at an impasse.

Sigh.

Happy New Year!

A wee bit premature but nonetheless heartfelt...

This past year has been the most whirlwind experience of my life:
3 jobs,
4 job offers,
business trips,
meeting someone new,
figuring out a life path,
sticking with it,
having the GREATEST birthday week imaginable...
and of course, you all. Friends and family who (I swear to God) I would be no where without.

2008 is going to be one for the books, people. So stay tuned.

Same Bat-time. Same Bat-channel.

Je vous aime tout et bonne année!

Anyway, I got around to buying the 3rd season yesterday and have already started it.

But more importantly, an update for all you other freaks who love the show, the season 5 premiere (which takes us and the entire Nip/Tuck Crew to Beverly Hills) starts October 23, 2007.

Party at my house.

Currently I'm sitting in my new cube looking out the giant glass front windows of my new office, smiling to myself that I am currently evading the oppressive heat and humidity outside. And hoping that I can stretch this moment out for a few hours as I have NOTHING TO DO RIGHT NOW.

This is the bitch of a new job.

You want to actually do work because you are excited, but are prevented in doing such because you don't know enough to do anything of any importance. Our foundation is putting on a Leadership Conference this weekend on the plaza, so yesterday I ended up making and putting together name placards and name tags for all the participants. Menial labor for the new girl... idle hands are the... something.

Everyday I get to do about an hour or two of ACTUAL work having to do with my position. This horrible transition/introductory period in which I spend my time learning about the foundation itself and fundraising practices is surely about over. Because they are paying me good money to sit here and email, myspace, and livejournal all day. Which in my old job I didn't mind since I hated it... but this... working in the non-profit sector... is what I want to do... so sitting around with my thumb inserted (pick your nether-region here) isn't exactly making me happy.

Anybody know where the crossword is?

If you need me, I'll be sleeping off the last 20 months...

After nearly two years at my current position, today, alas, is my last day.

Am I sad about it?

In the immortal words of Whitney Houston, "Hell to the no."

It's not that I don't like these people. I do. There is a giant party in my honor in a week or so, and some day-glo cupcakes and a huge batch of oatmeal chocolate chip cookies to take with me when I go... and of course, a few people I might keep in touch with... if they are lucky.

I got a call today from the Vice President of the Kansas Special Olympics Association asking me to reapply (I had applied to work there over a year ago). So I'm sending in my stuff again. Granted, I already have a new job and yes its a shitty thing to do if indeed I get this one... and even though non-profit is non-profit... I've wanted to work for the Special Olympics for a year and if they remember me after 12 months and remember my resume, well... I think that's a pretty good sign.

So tonight as I celebrate my new found independence from my old crappy job with a giant Chipotle burrito and the World Series of Pop Culture on my dad's 50 inch Plasma...(they are on an Alaskan cruise and I have free reign on their house to "water plants" and "pick up the mail") I'm going to be once again applying for jobs.

And I thought once I got this new one, it would be over.

But, alas, in my life, when it rains... it pours.

ATTN: All Catholics

Well, its Ash Wednesday, friends. That lovely time of year when we all pick something to give up and sacrifice so we know the true sacrifice the Lord made for us. Of course, Craig giving up bacon and me giving up drinking can't quite match up to his sacrifice but we all do what we can.

So yes, that brings me to this year's Lenten promise: I have stopped drinking. Actually I stopped drinking two weeks ago in preparation, and I probably will cheat on it at least once so know that I started two weeks early specifically for that reason. I'm not sure that's how the Pope intends for us to do it, but its the thought that counts, right? And I also plan on going to church every weekend... hoping this habit continues much farther after Lent, but rarely makes it past June. I must try however... after all, my church is a cathedral and has the Archbishop there, I probably could make my way to mass now and again.

So here is to the next 6 weeks of Lent and to the Ashy forehead I will have this evening after mass.. :)

Ode to Link

I think probably my favorite thing about Link was the way he walked.

Kind of this doddering old fool type of deal. Shifting his weight back and forth, roaming aimlessly around the house trying to smell his way around without running into the furniture. When I say "aimless" I don't mean that he didn't have a clue what he was doing... but without Sean around he didn't really care where he went. So for the 9 hours that Sean is away during the day this is what Link does. Walks around like my crazy old grandpa, trying to keep himself busy without exuding much energy.

Of course, when Sean does get home, this is when Link springs in to action and acts at least 10 years younger than he is. Jumping up and down, playing games, acting generally cheerful and not at all blind or deaf like we all knew him to be. Sean brought out the puppy in him.

And now that he's left us for much greener grass, I'm pretty sure he's going to be missed. After all, I think it went the other way too. I think he brought out the puppy in Sean.

RIP, Linkers.

I've become too sociable...

The past few weeks I have gone out both Friday and Saturday, and even once during the week. This is abnormal, people. I am not the girl who goes out all the time. I mean, yes, I do like the company of others... but we all know what is inevitably going to happen because of this: I'm going to have to disappear for a while.

And Sean called it.

Saturday night when the crew was all at Henry's (after having a grand time watching a small gay disco form at the Jackpot) I met up with my friend Andy from High School. When he hit the bathroom, I went out to the smoking deck to talk to Sean and Paul.... They asked me how things were going inside. Splendidly, of course, and I made some comment about Andy's friends. Sean then proceded to explain to me that there are two things that he doesn't understand about me... the first of which being my need to just fall off the face of the planet sometimes and stop talking to people.

I'm not sure why I'm like that. Except for it can get pretty exhausting being Abby all the time. So when I disappear its not a personal affront to anyone in particular... I just need to not be around people. So I hole myself up in my apartment, work out, write, play the piano, work on projects... and ignore society.

Basically if I keep up the way I've been going lately, I'm going to have to stop talking to everyone for a while. I already forwarned Brad... he is not surprised. Just a heads up so when you call/txt and I don't answer, know that I see it, and am promptly pushing ignore.

But thanks in advance for checking on me anyway.

My SOTU...

So for the State of the Union, I headed over to Matt's house because the gays wanted to have cocktails and politics night. We drank imported beer and Adam and Michael ended up playing a drinking game by taking shots everytime the President said "um...". I couldn't decide whether I should drink at every standing ovation, or at everytime they showed a Democrat doodling and not paying attention... so I forewent the game altogether and ended up playing chess with Jeremy.

Possibly the most interesting part of the evening would have to be after the speech, a 12 pack of beer, half a bottle of Jose Cuervo, and a few Minksy's pizzas when Matt decided to inform us of a certain piercing that only Adam had seen before...

So along with good conversation, a decent game of chess, and some Republican bashing I also got full view of Matt's Prince Albert.

And they say I'm not patriotic.
